An organizer software to manage your music collection including CDs, Tapes, LPs, and any other music media.
Pros: Music Organizer Deluxe is a music management software that enables you to maintain the music information of all your CDs, Tapes and other media. Mainly it focuses on the task of cataloging. To achieve cataloging, you can do it the old-fashioned way by manually entering each and every field for each CD / Tape, or take the automated cataloging mode, in which you simply scan in the UPC codes to get all the necessary information. Cataloging is also possible by importing from TXT and Excel files (i.e. your existing cataloging files). Once the information has been entered into the database you are away, with a host of searching and organizing functions. Your database can be exported and shared with friends and family.
Cons: The first obvious limitation is that the process of inventory building can be extremely slow as you need to individually type in each and every entry. With CDs etc. it is somewhat better with CDs, because for CDs you have the ability to lookup the information from FreeDB. But there are still problems because you will still not be a 100% satisfied with the results. The UPC scan does not always work as desired, and it requires that you have all the UPCs handy, which may not be the case for a lot of your collection. It is also a tad over-priced. With software like this there is always the issue of maintaining the physical organization (i.e. how the CDs and tapes stack up on your shelf), and how that corresponds with the database. Overall, the interface is pretty poor and really is a drag on the quality of the software. To be a truly contemporary software it ought to have MP3 as a part of the database.
Overall: 4 stars. The tool is a good one and the automatic cataloging (through UPC scanning) makes it superior to a lot of similar tools. But it is slightly over-priced and features a poor interface.
